Towns

Truro is a beautiful city to visit. It has a unique history. In the 19th and 20th centuries Truro was a very busy port and prior to this a large mining and agricultural area. It has attracted wealthy merchants and bankers in the past who built fine houses, turning Truro into the architectural splendour we see today. Today Truro is the centre of Cornwall for trade and commerce and has an interesting mix of specialist shops and multinational stores.

Bodmin

The former County town of Cornwall, Bodmin has many interesting buildings, including the Turret Clock, marking the site of the ancient Butter Market, the Assize Hall, Shire House and the notorious Bodmin Gaol. Above the town on Bodmin Beacon stands the 144 ft obelisk to Lt.-Gen. Sir Walter Raleigh Gilbert, descendant of the Elizabethan sailors Raleigh and Gilbert - commemorating his distinguished services in India.

Falmouth

Originally the hamlets of 'Peny-Cum-Quick' and 'Smethwick', they merged to become Falmouth in 1661. Falmouth stands at the mouth of the River Fal Estuary and is home to many fascinating tourist and local attractions such as the National Maritime Museum and Trago Mills!

Helston

Helston is an ancient market town, first granted its charter in the thirteenth century. Helston was one of the old coinage towns where tin ingots were assayed and stamped to assess the duty to be paid to the Duke of Cornwall. Home of the Furry dance and Culdrose RAF base.

Mevagissey

The fishing village of Mevagissey represents the very essence of a Cornwall, remaining true to its roots and embracing change only slowly. Mevagissey's complex of tiny streets twist and turn past tiny dwellings of cob and slate, but head inexorably for the twin harbours where you can watch the fishermen land their catch and mend their nets as they have done for time immemorial.

Penzance

Penzance, ancient market town and capital of the far west of Cornwall. Set in beautiful Mounts Bay - home to St. Michael's Mount and neighbouring nearby Newlyn and Mousehole, famous for its Christmas lights and fishing fleet. Located just 10 miles from Land's End, an area of Celtic culture and outstanding natural beauty surrounds the town.
