Discover the Magic of the Minack Theatre

Few places capture the drama and beauty of West Cornwall quite like the Minack Theatre.

Perched high on the cliffs above Porthcurno Bay, the world-famous open-air theatre combines spectacular coastal scenery with one of Cornwall’s most remarkable stories.

At first glance, the Minack can appear almost ancient, as though its terraces have been carved into the cliffs for centuries. In reality, the theatre is less than 100 years old and was created through the extraordinary vision and determination of Rowena Cade, who transformed what was once a rocky gully covered in gorse and heather into the iconic performance space visitors know today.

The theatre continues to be very much alive today, hosting more than 200 live performances each year, including plays, musicals, opera, live music and family events. More than 200,000 people visit annually to experience the theatre, its gardens and the incredible views across the Atlantic.

But you don't have to attend a performance to enjoy the Minack.

Visitors can explore the theatre and its subtropical gardens during the day, learn more about its fascinating history, enjoy the panoramic views across Porthcurno Bay and stop for refreshments at the theatre café. Guided experiences telling the story of Rowena Cade and the creation of the Minack are also available on selected dates.

The accompanying reel offers a wonderful glimpse of just how spectacular the setting is.

For anyone spending a holiday in Hayle, St Ives or elsewhere in West Cornwall, the Minack Theatre is well worth adding to the itinerary.

Whether you're visiting for a show or simply exploring during the day, there really aren't many theatres in the world with a backdrop quite like this.

Watch the reel and see why the Minack remains one of Cornwall's most unforgettable attractions.
